Today is my Siberian Husky, Luna’s, 3rd birthday and every year on her birthday I come up with a new dog friendly cake recipe to celebrate. In years past I’ve done peanut butter cupcakes and a carob cake so this year I decided to change things up with a carrot cake for dogs! If you’re looking for a dog safe cake recipe to celebrate your pooch this year, you’re in luck. Today I’m sharing my carrot cake recipe for dogs, complete with a two ingredient cream cheese frosting.

How to Make a Dog Friendly Cake

Did you know that most ingredients that go into a normal, human cake, are safe for dogs? In fact, most human foods are safe for dogs and a lot of them are actually good for dogs. Because of this, making a dog safe cake isn’t too tricky. The key is to keep the amount of sugar in the cake to a minimum. Instead of using cane sugar, replace it with another sweet ingredient such as honey or maple syrup. The lack of sugar will make the cake less tasty to us humans, but our canine companions will enjoy it all the same.

Ingredients such as flour, water, and eggs are all safe for dogs to consume! Add in some dog favorite flavors such as peanut butter and you’ve got a dog safe cake on your hands.

Of course, it’s not a dog friendly cake if it’s not baked into a bone or other doggy like shape! I used a bone shaped silicone cake mold from Amazon to make this canine cake complete.

Carrot Cake for Dogs

Carrot cake is the perfect choice to put a dog friendly spin on because carrots contain a lot of beneficial nutrients for our furry friends.

Carrots are a great source of vitamin A, fiber, and potassium. They’re also good for canine eye health and when fed raw can be great for teeth cleaning. While making this dog friendly carrot cake, keep your pup occupied with a whole carrot to snack on! They make great alternatives to bones and other chews.

Two Ingredient Cream Cheese Frosting Recipe

Cream cheese frosting is the perfect pairing for carrot cake so it was an obvious choice for Luna’s birthday cake this year.

To make this dog friendly cream cheese frosting you only need two ingredients: cream cheese and 100% pumpkin puree.

Both cream cheese and pumpkin are safe for dogs! While you shouldn’t give your pup too much cream cheese, it’s okay to give as a treat in moderation. Pumpkin has some excellent health benefits to aid in your dogs digestion so it’s a healthy treat for most dogs.

To make the cream cheese frosting, simply take a block of cream cheese and mix in about half a can of pumpkin puree. It’s quick and easy and the perfect icing on the dog safe carrot cake.

This carrot cake for dogs recipe was a huge hit for Luna and her friends this year! We will for sure be adding it to our canine cake rotation for all birthdays and gotcha days in the future. What is your dogs favorite cake recipe?
