It’s starting to consistently reach 80 degrees here in Virginia which means summer is right around the corner! One of my favorite parts of summer is trying out all the different ice cream flavors from the grocery store. As I was enjoying a bowl of ice cream the other night, my Siberian Husky, Luna, sat watching me. While some ice cream is okay for your dog in moderation, I obviously couldn’t scoop her her own bowl. I decided then that I would attempt my own ice cream recipe using dog safe ingredients. Through some trial and error, a recipe was born! Today I’m sharing my peanut butter pumpkin ice cream for dogs recipe.

Ingredients

This recipe is simple and uses only 4 ingredients that you probably already have in your kitchen!

the peanut butter pumpkin ice cream for dogs only uses four ingredients: plain yogurt, honey, peanut butter, and pure pumpkin

Peanut Butter: peanut butter is a staple in dog desserts because it’s good for them and easy to get. Peanut butter is a good source of healthy fats and protein and is the perfect flavor when you want to give your dog a sweet treat.

Note: Make sure your peanut butter is free of xylitol, a sugar substitute that is toxic to dogs.

Pumpkin Puree: 100% canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie mix) is a safe and healthy food for your dogs. It’s full of vitamins and minerals that help dogs aid digestion. Pumpkin is full of fiber and can help dogs feel full without too many extra calories.

Honey: honey is a great choice for sweetening homemade dog desserts. It’s made with natural ingredients that won’t make your dog sick in small quantities. Be careful not to give your dog too much, as too much sugar can cause tooth decay and make your dog ill.

Plain Yogurt: plain yogurt is the main ingredient in our peanut butter pumpkin ice cream for dogs. Yogurt is high and calcium and protein and acts as a probiotic so it’s good for your dogs digestive system. Too much yogurt can cause your dog to become sick because dogs aren’t used to large amounts of lactose. Plain greek yogurt is the healthiest for your furry friend.

How to Make It

Making the peanut butter pumpkin ice cream for dogs is easy as can be! Combine all the ingredients into one large mixing bowl and then freeze.

After mixing my ingredients, I poured the mixture back into the yogurt container for easy storage. I then put it in the freezer for 2 hours and it was ready to be stored!

The recipe makes about 12 servings, so it’s best to keep it in the freezer to let it last longer.

How to Serve It

You can serve the ice cream in a bowl or cup for a delicious after dinner treat.
