It’s June which means summer is officially here! Warm weather and long days give us the perfect opportunity to go on adventures and make plenty of memories not just with our friends and family, but with our dogs as well. If you’re racking your brain to make plans for this summer, look no further! Today, I’m sharing 10 summer activities you can do with your dog!
Road Trip
Is it really summer if you don’t go on at least one road trip?? Road trips are the perfect way to take a vacation that you can easily bring your dog on with you. Whether you’re traveling to another state for a week at the beach or driving a couple hours for a fun day trip, your pup will love being able to join in on the adventure with you.

Ice Cream
Nothing screams summer more than ice cream! If you’re looking for something fun to do on a summer afternoon, visit a local ice cream shop in your hometown. Most ice cream spots have a pup cup option which makes this sweet outing the perfect adventure to share with your dog.
Hiking
I hike with my dogs year round but nothing beats a summer hike! Look up some fun trails in your area and take your pup on a day long hike for some fun exercise this summer. Bonus points if you can find a trail along water such as a river or lake!
If you do plan to hike this summer make sure you’re prepared with these hiking essentials:
Brewery
If you’re a fan of a cold beer on a warm summer day, then visiting a brewery with your pup is the perfect summer activity. Most breweries are dog friendly and the perfect way to get together with friends while making sure your pup is included.
Reminder: Most breweries are going to have several dogs visiting with their owners. If your dog isn’t friendly with other pups, it might be a good idea to skip this activity.
Dog “Pup”sicles
I love making frozen “pup”sicles for my dogs once the weather gets warm! They’re a super simple treat that your pup is sure to love. There are many different ways to make the frozen doggy treat. Some of my favorite recipes include:
Swimming
If your dog doubles as a fish then swimming is a must for them this summer! If you have access to a private pool then don’t be afraid to bring your dog along for a fun pool day! Or, if a pool isn’t an option, find a local lake, river, or beach for some water fun. Don’t forget a life jacket, especially in larger bodies of water!
Beach Visit
What’s summer without at least one visit to a beach?? If you’re planning a beach trip this year, bring your dog along! They’ll have a blast digging in the sand, swimming in the ocean, and spending time with their favorite human.
Safety Tip: Beaches can be hot! Make sure to protect your pups feet on the sand by bringing towels and blankets for them to lay on or even investing in some doggy shoes. Also make sure to have plenty of fresh water for them to avoid dehydration or heat exhaustion.
Camping
Camping and dogs go hand in hand. If you need a more private vacation idea for you and your dog then a camping trip is a must do! Your pup will love hiking, sitting by the fire, and exploring nature by your side. Just be sure to follow these 7 camping safety tips.
Farmers Market
Farmers markets are all over the place in the summer and such a fun place to visit with your dog! Your pup will have a blast walking through the market with you as you pick out yummy produce that you both can enjoy later. If you’re lucky, there might even be a vendor selling dog treats!
Note: Farmers markets can be quite busy with people and other dogs! If your dog is reactive in large crowds or doesn’t do well with other dogs this may not be the activity for them.
Picnic in a Park
Who doesn’t love a good old fashioned picnic? Pack up a yummy lunch for you and some snacks for your dog and head out to a relaxing picnic in the park. This is a great opportunity to teach your dog to relax and be content just chilling. Frozen lick mats are a great treat to bring along for your pup to enjoy and keep them busy during the picnic!
