5 Summer Activities to Do With Your Dog

Summer is officially here which means it is time for all of the summer activities to begin! As a kid my parents always filled my summers with incredible memories such as pool days, beach vacations, and plenty of special treats. Now, as a dog mom, I like to do the same for my dog! If you’re interested in creating a summer full of fun memories for you and your pup you’re in the right place. Today, I’m sharing 5 summer activities to do with your dog!

1. Create a Bucket List

Summer bucket lists are not a new concept. While most people are creating lists of fun summer plans with their friends, why not do so with your dog? At the beginning of every summer I like to create a bucket list of activities I want to do with my dog. This can range from a trip to an ice cream shop to a full blown beach vacay!

A bucket list will encourage you to take time this summer to make memories for you and your pup and it’ll be so much fun to look back on year after year. A few items on my summer bucket list this year include:

  • Visiting a local ice cream shop (vanilla chocolate swirl for me and a pup cup for Luna!)
  • Camping
  • A day trip to the beach
  • Picnic in a park
  • Making a frozen, dog friendly treat

2. Go on a Road Trip

What’s better than a summer road trip– driving with the windows down, feeling the wind in your hair and blasting your favorite music? Take your dog on a road trip with you summer (but only if they’re a fan of the car).

You can road trip just about anywhere! Take an hour long drive along beautiful scenery, drive a couple of hours to a nice pet friendly hotel for the night, or a five hour road trip to a beach or other fun week long vacation!

3. Swimming

If you have a dog that loves to swim then visiting a pool, lake, or beach this summer is a must do! Swimming is a very popular summer activity, and for good reason! It’s the perfect activity to cool off on a hot day and get some much needed exercise and vitamin D.

If you do take your dog swimming this year, make sure you have necessary precautions in place. Purchase a dog life jacket, because accidents can happen even with the strongest swimmers and make sure you provide them with plenty of fresh water since they’ll be out in the heat and staying active for several hours.

4. Make a Frozen Treat

Ice cream and popsicles are a must in the summer time! While human frozen treats aren’t necessarily good for our furry friends, making them their own dog safe treats is super simple! Some of my favorite frozen treats to make for my dog in the summer include:

5. Attend an Outdoor Event

So many events take place outside during the summer and most of them are dog friendly! If you have a social pup, bring them to a local brewery, farmers market, or ice cream social this summer.

If your dog is not a huge fan of strangers, other dogs, or crowded places then avoid taking them to busy summer events.

What do you plan to do with your dog this summer?
